WESTBURY resident, Eboni Usoro-Brown, has brought home a bronze medal after competing at the Netball World Cup in Liverpool, as well as receiving her 100th cap for the England Vitality Roses during the competition.
Eboni, who trains at Team Bath, is one of the most decorated and well-known members of the Vitality Roses, having represented her country in three Commonwealth Games. She was part of the Vitality Roses side that made history by winning gold at the Gold Coast in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, against home favourites Australia.
The experienced defender, who currently plies her trade for Team Bath in the Vitality Netball Superleague, also enjoyed a successful four-year stint in the professional ANZ Championship in Australia.
Her first cap for England came during April 2008 in a game versus Malawi. During the Vitality Netball World Cup last month, Eboni received her 100th cap for the match against Jamaica on Monday 15th July.
After that match, Eboni said, “It feels incredible to get 100 caps, just as special as getting my first, but I think it’s the girls that really made it. We have such camaraderie off the court.
“The crowd has been absolutely phenomenal, we are so grateful for each and every one of those fans that are turning up or tuning in to support us.”
This is Eboni’s third successive bronze medal with England during the World Cup, also competing in the 2011 and 2015 competitions.
New Zealand went on to win the gold medal after England just missed out against them to reach the final with the Silver Ferns winning 47-45, moving on to win against Australia in the final.
If the World Cup has made you excited about women’s netball, Westbury Netball Club welcome new and experienced players to join either their Wildcats or Wolves teams, with the chance to compete in the local Moonraker league.
They train at Matravers School on Monday evenings. For more details, contact west burynetballclub@yahoo.co.uk.
