THE Westbury Dorothy House charity shop is encouraging people to shop sustainably this September.
As a part of Dorothy House’s wider Sustainable September campaign, the Westbury branch is encouraging more people to shop sustainably by reducing prices on second-hand items and offering mystery bundles.
“We currently have got a huge sale on with car boot sale prices with the aim of saving more clothing from landfill than ever before,” said store manager Gracie White. “We also have created mystery bundles to make shopping sustainably more fun.”
“This will hopefully also attract a younger audience, sustainability IS cool!”
The initiative has already proved successful, with Gracie saying, “We’ve had quite a few people in recently who have said ‘I just saw your sign and came in and it’s the first thing I’ve ever bought from a charity shop!”
Dorothy House Hospice Care provide free palliative and end of life care to a population of over 550,000 people across the local area.
They provide medical services, family support and personalised hospice at home care for around half of the people in the community who are approaching death. They are funded partly by the NHS, but predominantly by donations, their charity shops, and fundraising efforts.
As a hospice charity with 29 shops, Dorothy House plays a part in diverting over 330,000 tonnes of textiles from national landfill each year.
