Crosspoint has had another successful year.
The organisation says, “This was only possible because of the generous help of the people of Westbury. Organisation, societies, churches and the Town Council together with many individuals have all contributed to our work.
“Sometimes we have received financial gifts, sometime folks have volunteered, giving time and effort, some have provided food and toiletries. These gifts have made our work possible. It has kept our doors open for another year, it has helped those in need.
“Sometimes we hear negative things about our town and our fellow residents, but the effort given to keep our drop-in centre running is little short of a minor miracle. It is this goodwill that has enabled us to help the homeless, those in need and those suffering from depression and stress. We are all aware through the media how tight the country’s finances are so when a community comes together to provide support for those in trouble, it should be celebrated.
“Over a thousand visits have been made to Crosspoint in this last year, over 250 foodboxes have been distributed with the assistance of the Warminster and District Food Bank. In cooperation with Westbury Counselling Service, we provide some 12 to 14 counselling sessions each week for adults and young people.
“People drop in to us to use the internet to access their emails, check for employment, request help with form filling and meet with housing officers from the council and other organisations. Some attend for a cup of tea and a little friendship.
“As long as Westbury remains a caring community the work of Crosspoint (Westbury) can continue. Once we cease to care we lose more than just a drop-in centre. We will become a poorer society.”
