AFTER months of fund-raising, local toddler Alexander Vinson has been flown to the USA to receive potentially life-saving cancer treatment.
Family and friends of the two-year-old set about a nationwide fundraising campaign to raise £150,000 needed to pay for proton beam therapy for his brain tumour.
Donations poured in from all over the country and the family has now raised over £138,000. Despite not having the full amount, charity Kids ‘n’ Cancer who has been promoting the cause, went ahead and organised the treatment.
Alexander’s mum Raluca said, “People have been amazing. Alexander will be starting a new journey which we’ve waited and wished for so much, a journey we would have never been able to make without you, our friends, our family and people from all over Britain and the rest of the world who so kindly and generously helped in any way they could to give Alexander his chance for a normal life, a chance which everyone deserves.
“I will never be able to thank every single one of you enough for what you’ve done. I love you all and thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Founder of the charity Mike Hyman said, “I can now confirm that Raluca [Alexander’s mother] now has a visa to travel to the USA for Alexander’s proton therapy treatment.
“So even though we are still short of our target I’m filled with pride that he’s on his way with prayers and a lot of love from Kids ‘n’ Cancer. Thank you one and all.”
