LOCAL dog lovers will be taking part in a charity dog walk at Southwick Country Park next weekend to raise awareness for an animal abuse charity.
The walk will take place at the country park on Sunday 29th May from 1.30pm. Westbury policeman, John Miller, has organised the event to raise awareness for the Edward Foundation, a charity set up to help bulldogs at risk of abuse.
John said, “Everyone is welcome to come along to the walk, whether they’re bulldog owners or not. We’ll be asking for small donations to help the charity’s work but really it’ll be a social occasion for like-minded people to go for a walk and a coffee.
“The Edward Foundation was set up to rescue bulldogs at risk of abuse; it’s a very real problem. Bulldogs are iconic British dogs and very sought after; sometimes people pay a lot of money for them but don’t realise how much looking after they require.
“If they are sold to the wrong people, the dogs are particularly vulnerable because of their docile nature, and they can be used in dogfights.
“The Edward Foundation is a national charity which helps rescue bulldogs from possible exploitation and rehomes them with foster families.”
