Westbury’s Christmas celebrations promises a ‘great show for the people of Westbury’!

Abba Rival

The event, which will be held on Saturday 27th November in the town centre and Market Place, runs from 2pm to 7pm. There will be a winter market and food stalls, free children’s activities and Santa’s grotto, live music from pop to gospel, acoustic and soul to rock n roll and the big Christmas lights switch-on.

Chair of the events working group at Westbury Town Council, cllr Michael Amos said, “This year is set to be a good one after a year out. We wanted to put on a great show for the people of Westbury and thank them for all of the amazing acts of kindness during the various lockdowns we’ve had.”

Stalls are to be lit up with festive lighting, choirs are set to entertain market-goers and there will be plenty of mulled wine and Christmas food to go around.

Abba Rival will be co-headlining the night’s entertainment, singing the Swedish quartet’s classics for the people of Westbury, while the brilliant Will Blake Band will be on stage before Abba Rival, with the Christmas lights switch-on taking place between the two performances.

There will also be a number of other acts and, with over 50 performers taking to the stage over a three-hour period, bring some warm clothes, top up with refreshments and head on down to enjoy a concert for all the family!

All Westbury’s festive information will be in a Christmas brochure, which will be produced by Westbury Town Council and distributed through the next issue of White Horse News and at the Christmas event.

In the meantime, here’s a little preview of who will be performing.

The Cleyhill Stompers

Westbury’s much-loved resident band, The Cleyhill Stompers, make a welcomed return to the Westbury Christmas celebrations event, as they open the main stage in The Market Place at 4pm, prior to the Christmas lights switch-on.

The six-piece supergroup has performed their entertaining classic covers rock n roll set across the south-west, from Chapmanslade to the South Coast. On Saturday 27th November, The Stompers return to their hometown to deliver another high energy performance to the community!

PSG (Pop, Soul, Gospel) Choir

This up-and-coming community choir was founded seven years ago by Will Blake, and has now spread out to six different locations across Wiltshire and Somerset. With sessions every week in Frome, Chippenham, Devizes, Bath, Swindon and Malmesbury, the choir are truly bringing Pop, Soul and Gospel to the masses!

PSG are always on the hunt for new members, so if you fancy trying something new that’s amazing fun, check out the choir’s website www.psgchoirs.co.uk

Harmony Asia

If you attended the Westbury festival finale event in October, you’ll see why Harmony has been invited to perform at the Christmas Celebrations event!

Harmony is relatively new to the scene but already making waves on the music front. An outstanding original singer/songwriter and guitarist, Harmony recently performed an online fundraising event, performing alongside the likes of Kate Rusby and Scott Matthews.

The Will Blake Band

The Will Blake Band is one of the most established party bands in the South West, with 12 years in the business, they really know how to put on a show. Along with their very own red grand piano, expect an exciting mix of pop, rock, boogie woogie and soul as these guys get you singing along to your favourite tracks and dancing until you drop. After their performance for the lights back in 2018, they can’t wait to return to Westbury for another performance!

Abba Rival

Witness the re-emergence of arguably the greatest pop band of all time, courtesy of ABBA Rival!

This superb live show continues to delight and entertain audiences throughout with their unique ability to re-create the massive and legendary sound of ABBA with uncanny accuracy. Featuring superb vocals and musicianship, fronted by two stunning ABBA girls with dazzling costumes and all of ABBA’s greatest hits, this truly is the most accurate and true tribute to the Swedish supergroup.

The band have performed throughout the top venues in the UK and Europe including various corporate events, theatres, outdoor concerts and in 2005, performed a summer season in Disneyland Paris. Formed in 1999, ABBA Rival are officially one of the longest-running successful ABBA tribute bands in the business. Mamma Mia, here we go again!
