THE Laverton Experience kicks off next week, with a host of free events on offer to the community.
Organisers say that the week will offer something for everyone, with a wide range of activities including yoga, film screenings, talks on local history, and a dance show.
David Lawrence, Laverton marketing and development officer said, “I am really looking forward to seeing the Laverton being used to host a week’s worth of community events, and I am excited about the great events that we have managed to put together.
“All events are free and any donations made will go towards Dorothy House and Alzheimer’s Society. Interest is already quite high with the screenings of Madagascar 3, The Hobbit and Shakespeare Rattle and Roll among the week’s activities.
“It will give the Laverton a chance to show off its flexibility not just as a historic venue but also for meetings, training courses, weddings and parties.”
Over the last few years The Laverton Project has been bringing to life a vision for the facility to serve as a centre for education, culture, and leisure – a vision that was started when the building was commissioned and paid for by local philanthropist Abraham Laverton in the 1800s.
The week has been put together to give local residents the chance to try out some new activities and discover what the Laverton has to offer. It has been funded by an ‘Awards for All’ grant from the Big Lottery Fund.
