WESTBURY Youth FC recently welcomed the local community to a pitch clean-up, after a young boy was hospitalised when he fell on broken glass at the Redland Lane ground.
Overwhelmed by the response from the people of Westbury after posting the news onâFacebook, the football club headed to Redland Lane on Easter weekend to clear the ground. All training and matches were postponed after Joseph Coulson required stitches and crutches after cutting his leg on the playing field.
Greg Coulson, Josephâs father and vice-chairman of Westbury Youth said, âI am humbled by the response to the appeal, itâs fantastic to see so many people helping out.
âWestbury Youth provides football to 350 boys and girls and we would have had to postpone our training sessions without the help we received.”
Martin Pearce, vice- president of Westbury United said, âJoseph was lucky to have not suffered a more serious injury. The notification of suspended training received a fantastic response when posted on Facebook, and the many offers of help to clear up the pitches led to the organised clean up on Saturday 4th April.â
Training at the pitch has now resumed as normal.
