WESTBURY Area Network is now well established in its new home at the Westbury Community Project, off Eden Vale Road. Volunteers have now taken on the responsibility of managing the community fridge, which is open to all with the focus on reducing waste to landfill.
Whilst continuing the fridge and food bank each Monday and Thursday, it is hoped to increase the number of days the fridge is available to the community. As a result, more volunteers are needed in order to help run the scheme.
Trustee Ian Cooper said: “With busy lives we know it can be hard to find time to volunteer; however the benefits of volunteering can be enormous. Volunteering offers vital help to people in need, worthwhile causes and the community, but the benefits can be even greater for the volunteer. It strengthens your ties to the community and broadens your support network, linking you to people with common interests and neighbourhood resources and can even advance your career.
“It has been said that volunteers are the glue that keeps a community together and our experience over the last, challenging 18 months has proved this without doubt. You don’t need to have special qualifications, all that is required is an open mind and a willingness to pitch in wherever needed.”
