MATRAVERS School is celebrating an important milestone in the construction of its exciting new extension.
The project has reached its highest point of development, which was marked by a topping out ceremony.
The £7million development, designed by NVB Architects and built by Midas Construction, will feature a brand new three-storey 2,393 square metre steel-frame teaching block and will be home to science, maths, ICT, technology and general teaching classrooms. This investment in Matravers School, Westbury’s secondary and sixth form school, is part of the Government’s £4.4billion Priority School Building Programme which is rebuilding or refurbishing those school buildings in the very worst condition across the country.
Dr Simon Riding, headteacher at Matravers School said, “We are delighted with the progress of this transformational project on our school site. This project will help to inspire generations of young people through providing world-class STEM learning opportunities. Midas Construction is a fantastic project partner that echoes our own high standards and expectations within our community.”
Initial works began during the 2018 school summer holidays and the project is due for completion at the end of this year. The contract was awarded via the Southern Construction Framework, which provides public sector organisations with access to 11 of the best contractors who bring with them a wealth of experience and a commitment to drive continuous improvement.
Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group, is completing the project in phases to minimise disruption, with the new development being built ahead of the demolition and landscaping of the existing building. The school is staying open throughout the duration of the build.
Derek Quinn, executive director for Midas Construction said, “It’s a pleasure to see the progress being made on site. This project is a continuation of Midas’s strong performance within the education sector and we are looking forward to delivering new high quality facilities for pupils and teachers.”
Matravers School is one of several construction projects within the education sector being delivered by Midas, including work commissioned through the Southern Construction Framework. The Group has delivered 55 education projects worth over £200 million in the last three years alone.
Midas is one of the UK’s largest independent construction and property services providers delivering projects for customers across a range of sectors including; retail, education, residential and commercial developments, and has offices throughout the South West, South East, Midlands and Wales.
