Crafters are needed to help create a poppy art installation for Westbury’s Remembrance service.
The Westbury Yarn Bombers, a local knitting and crochet group, are hoping to collate 10,000 crocheted poppies to create art installations in Westbury town centre ahead of the Remembrance service on Sunday 8th November. The plan is to decorate posts in the High Street with handmade poppies, which will then be reused next year to create a Remembrance veil.
“We welcome donations of poppies in both traditional poppy red and purple,” said Marisa Befoh, founder of the Westbury Yarn Bombers. “The purple poppy was created in 2006 by the charity Animal Aid specifically to commemorate animals as the forgotten victims of war.
“We warmly welcome handmade poppies and, for anyone not yet fully confident with crochet or knitted work, pom-poms in the same colours are just as appreciated. Every contribution will be used in our tribute.
“Although Westbury is home to the Army Officer Selection Board, it is not a garrison town. Our Remembrance displays honour the many servicemen, women and animals connected to the wider garrison communities surrounding us.”
