STAFF at Tesco Express in Fore Street have been ‘cycling to Lapland’ for Christmas, in aid of charities that support people suffering from cancer.
Staff took it in turns to jump on an exercise bike at the Westbury store as they set themselves the challenge of cycling all day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with 2,070 miles between Westbury and Father Christmas’ home.
Cancer Research UK is Tesco’s Charity of the Year for 2012, with the superstore aiming to raise £10million for the charity. The Fore Street store decided they would do their bit by taking on the cycling challenge in fancy dress. They raised £320 over the weekend, half of which will go to Cancer Research UK. The store decided they also wanted to support a more local appeal, donating the remainder to Bath Royal United Hospital’s Forever Friends Appeal to build a pioneering new cancer centre.
Store manager Anthea Scarth explained, “All the staff did really well and were really supportive. It was all about making as much money as possible. Customers were putting in £10, £5, and one customer even put in £30. It’s a cause that’s close to everyone’s hearts.”
