THREE women from Westbury have successfully completed the tough challenge of cycling from London to Brighton for charity.
Mother and daughter, Lynda and Hayley Brewer, along with their friend Jackie Macey, rode the 58 miles, raising almost £400 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Shine.
Lynda said, “It all went well and it was a great day. The organisers did a fantastic job. I have to admit I did surprise myself that I made it to the end.”
Hayley said, “The ride went well although it felt like a very hilly journey. The weather being so good was a huge bonus. It took us about 6 hours to complete because of heavy traffic. Thousands of bikes blocking the roads meant there were angry car drivers shouting abuse and throwing punches out of their windows at all the cyclists, how lovely the general public can be.
“I’m so proud of my mum and Jackie for crossing the finish line, they worked so hard and beneath the pain I think they enjoyed it as much as I did.
“I’m pleased that I managed to cycle up every hill- including the big one at the end which was an absolute beast. Many people in the weeks before the event had told me that it was doubtful that I would reach the top without getting off, but I wasn’t getting off that bike even though my thighs and lungs felt like they were going to explode! I cycled past lots of men that had just given up from exhaustion.
“We would like to thank Simon Hawking from Sigo welding specialist, Warm-inster, for lending us transport and Eric Barker for driving us. Also a thank you to everyone who has sponsored us. All in all I think it was a great achievement by us all.”
