DILTON Marsh Women’s Institute held their February meeting this month to elect their President and officers, with the existing committee voted to remain.
Liz Lee of Dilton Marsh WI said, “February is the month that Dilton Marsh WI vote and elect their President and officers for the coming year.
“Alison Irving and her existing committee were once again unanimously re-elected and thanked for their past year of hard work. Alison spoke of the various achievements of 2017 which included charity funding, social visits, village day and entry into various competitions.
“2018 sees an exciting programme of events and speakers including flower arranging, bats, Antarctica, jewellery-making and a summer party. The Women’s Institute is a community-based organization which was founded in Canada 1897, but the first meeting in Great Britain was in 1915. It grew in strength throughout the country and in 2015 celebrated its 100th anniversary.
“It plays an unique role in enabling women to gain new skills, take part in wide-ranging activities and campaign for issues that matter to them. The WI members have campaigned for equal pay, climate change, gaps in the midwifery workforce and the plight of honey bees amongst many others. Apart from meetings and social visits there is a magazine WI Life delivered to your home 8 times a year and Denman College in Berkshire offers fun weekend stays with courses on anything you might wish.
“Our next meeting is March 8 when we have a talk on Aloe Vera; why not come along and join us. We are friendly and great fun.”
