GARDENERS were disappointed after a flower box and sign in Edington were left smashed after apparently being hit by a car recently.
The large planter at the entrance to the village stands next to a welcome sign that reads ‘Please drive with care’. The sign and flower bed appeared to have been hit by a vehicle earlier this month.
The box is one of three, sited on the approaches to the village, which are looked after by members of the local gardening club.
Club member George Fraser said, “The village takes pride in the flower boxes and they had all been planted with spring bulbs and plants.
“The vehicle must have been travelling at some speed to move the box, which contained about a ton of earth, some distance.
“If the flower box had not been there, the vehicle (a light blue car judging from the ‘bits’ left at the scene) would have flattened the village sign and rolled into the Strad Brook. It is ironic that the sign which says ‘Please drive with care’ was also damaged in the collision. Someone didn’t!”
