WESTBURY Lions’ seventh annual Donkey Derby took place on Sunday, with the races bringing plenty of drama, excitement, and fun to jockeys and spectators at White Horse Country Park.
Crowds cheered on the young jockeys in each of the eight races, with a final race featuring the winning jockeys of the previous races. In between races, Honest Joe took the bets and there were donkey rides for the younger children. There were also plenty of activities and stalls running alongside the races.
Westbury Lion Nigel Coward said, “It was a wonderful day, it all went very well. We were a bit worried in the morning because the weather was poor, but it cheered up and a really good crowd turned up and seemed to enjoy themselves.
“The Donkey Derby is one of the biggest fundraisers on our calendar. All the money goes back into the town, and back to the people of Westbury.”
