EDINGTON village was awarded second place overall in Wiltshire in this year’s final round of the Best Kept Village awards, narrowly missing out on the top spot to Biddestone.
The 2018 Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) Wiltshire and The Hills Group ‘Best Kept Village Competition’ is designed to foster pride in our beautiful countryside and is open to every village in Wiltshire.
This year, Edington topped the judges’ scorecard in the medium-sized village category in West Wiltshire that saw them move on to the finals round, putting all the winners against each other for overall victory in Wiltshire.
The village narrowly missed out on the top spot, scoring 86 points to top scorer Biddestone’s 90 points. The villages were judged on evidence of a vibrant village which puts time and effort into its clubs and organisations, and keeps litter and general untidiness to a minimum. to be crowned the overall winners.
Sandie Lewis, Edington parish councillor who coordinated the entries says, “Everyone is delighted. We have worked hard picking up litter, sprucing up seats and tending planted areas of the village. It was difficult to combat the brown grass this summer but we did our best!
“Thank you to everyone who takes pride in our environment every day, not just at judging time!”
