One of Westbury’s popular walking areas has been given a facelift thanks to funding from the local area board.
The area off the Mead is a favourite with dog walkers, fishermen and ramblers, taking them past lakes and onto a network of footpaths over nearby fields. But until recently, the low lying area had become almost impassable especially in the winter months.
Now the Westbury area board, part of Wiltshire Council’s network representing community areas across the county, has funded a series of raised footpaths that snake around the lake and enable not only easier walking but also access by people with limited mobility.
The area board has spent a total of £6,000 on the project which links up with another area board funded project – the replacement of stiles with more easily accessible kissing gates.
The Westbury area board, which comprises four Wiltshire Council members, spends more than £40,000 each year on projects that benefit the local community. If you think your project or community group may qualify for funds, take a look at the website for more details at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/area boards
The next meeting of the area board, which is open to everyone, takes place at the Laverton on Thursday 4th June at 7.00pm.
