THE Royal British Legion (RBL) has said it could close the Westbury branch if it does not attract new members. At a meeting of RBL Wiltshire, it was agreed to advertise for new members in the Westbury area to enable the branch to operate once more.
The RBL supports serving and ex-serving personnel of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, British Army, Royal Air Force, reservists, veterans, and their families through life. The RBL is now on the lookout for people to fill the committee positions at the Westbury branch, as well as new branch members and Poppy Appeal fundraisers.
The Chippenham RBL secretary Kevin Swift says that new members are needed locally to keep the Westbury branch alive. He said, “Westbury RBL, with its strong military history in the town, is likely to close if we do not have anyone to keep this strong tradition going and it would be a shame if there was no representation at events such as Remembrance Sunday.”
“Men and women of all ages are welcome to become a member, whether they have served or not. Our members play a vital role in ensuring that the RBL can continue to provide lifelong support to the armed forces to the Westbury community, as well as upholding the importance of Remembrance.
“Join our network, build relationships, and share great experiences with like-minded people in the Westbury branch! You can also receive our magazine to stay connected to the latest RBL news. Membership is an excellent way to get involved in all that the Legion does. As a member you can, for example, provide support through our branch community support programme, reaching out to those in need near you. Through membership, you can help others and feel good about it!”
