OVER 100 people enjoyed a fundraising cream tea in Victoria Garden on Saturday 29th April where over £400 was raised to support the maintenance of the garden.
The main highlight of the event, that was organised by the Friends of Victoria Garden (FVG), was the grand unveiling of six stone animals that now decorate the garden and were donated by the Turk family from the local masonry firm, StoneKraft.
Entertainment was provided by students from Matravers School with solo performances of songs they had each chosen, accompanied by their teacher, Ms Sorga.
Speaking about the event, FVG Secretary Margaret said, “We are so grateful to Brian Turk and his son Martin who, along with Brian’s grandsons, Alfie, Archie and Harvey, have created the six animal carvings especially for Victoria Garden. We hope that younger visitors to the garden in particular will enjoy spotting and naming the different animals.
“The afternoon proved a great success with lots of people commenting on the lovely singing and delicious homemade cakes and scones. We were very lucky with the weather and really pleased to have raised over £400, all of which will go towards the maintenance of Victoria Garden. We are extremely thankful to the volunteers without whose help the event couldn’t have happened.”
