Parking permits could be introduced on Frogmore Road after Westbury Town Council agreed to reverse an earlier decision not to support the scheme.
At a Highways, Planning and Development meeting on Monday 19th January, councillors reviewed advice from the principal engineer in Wiltshire Council’s engineering team and considered feedback from residents, which indicated support for permits. The committee agreed the issue should be referred to the Local Highways and Footways Improvement Group (LHFIG).
The move follows a decision made at an HP&D meeting in April 2025 “not to proceed with parking permits as they are aimed at resolving issues with long stay commuter parking and will therefore not resolve the issue for Frogmore Road”.
Residents had previously asked the town council to support a parking permit scheme, citing regular parking by non-residents. At the time, councillors decided the scheme should not go ahead.
Cllr Mike Sutton proposed revisiting the decision, saying he was “slightly concerned” about the earlier outcome and pointing to strong support from residents.
“They want it, and it’s possible,” said Cllr Sutton.
“Yes, it will cost the residents money, but they have all revoted to pay the money and have a space outside their house.”
Cllr Mark Bailey said, “My feeling is that if the people of Frogmore Road have again said they want to do this, then we should support them.”
The committee agreed to refer the proposal for residents’ parking permits to the Local Highways and Footways Improvement Group.
