A WOMAN from Westbury has completed a 55km walk, raising over £1,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Chloe Todd, who overcome Hodgkin lymphoma after being diagnosed in 2016, and her partner Tom Attwell, completed the South Coast Challenge, walking 55km in just under 15 hours. The walk started in Eastbourne, following the coast around the Hove, and past Brighton.

Since receiving the all-clear in January 2017 Chloe has taken part in a number of fundraising events raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust. The on-going total now lies at over £3,000.

Chloe said, “This challenge feels like such an achievement! Even though we’re both exhausted, it was such a challenge and very hard going, but well worth it for the money we raised.

“I’m still amazed I finished it, having hip dysplasia meant it was always going to be a struggle but I think we did really well considering – we managed to keep a good pace going.

“It took us just under 15 hours, 12 hours of walking and 3 hours at rest stops. We started at 8am and finished at 10:59pm! We were hoping for a 10pm finish and we were on target for this at 45km but towards the end Tom’s back was seizing up and my legs were really sore, so the last 7km or so took us a lot longer than we wanted. We still hit our 12 hours walking target though!

“Tom is feeling a bit sore, he’ll recover much quicker than me as he’s physically active – he plays rugby and goes to gym a lot, whereas I don’t do anything much! He says he won’t be doing any long walks with me again though!”

Chloe’s dad, Andrew Vaughan, had also planned to join the pair on the challenge.

“Dad couldn’t make it in the end for two reasons, his back hadn’t been great and then (funny story) me and my brother got my parents tickets for the rugby! My brother booked it but I didn’t double check the dates, the match was on the same day as the walk – oops! We know we definitely still have a couple of donations to come in which will take us to £1,250 between us. Our target was £1,000, so anything else is a bonus now.”

When asked about the next challenge, Chloe said, “We haven’t thought of any yet! I’ll have a think of what we can do next year, but this challenge will be a hard one to beat.”

Chloe and Tom’s donation page will stay open. If you would like to donate visit www.justgivingcom/ companyteams/wereallmadhere.
