LEIGH Park Community Centre offers the residents of Westbury and surrounding areas great opportunities to get involved.
Now in its fourth year of running, the Leigh Park Community Centre has managed to achieve just what was initially planned. They offer the space for members of the public, small businesses and third party organisers to hire out the space and encourage people through the door.
Debbie Cole, centre manager said, “The feedback from residents and users of the centre has been that we offer a lovely, vibrant space with a great team and lots of things to do.
“There are lots of regular activities on Monday through to Sunday including a monthly market on the first Sunday of every month with the next one being on Sunday 5th November. Our Christmas market is also back this year, on 3rd December.”
The Christmas market will feature a selection of local traders bringing you Christmas gifts, stocking fillers and much more. Light refreshments will be included. The market will start at 10.00am and finish at 2.00pm.
There is also a Ladies Shopping Evening on Thursday 30th November where you can join in a Christmas shopping evening with a selection of stalls and free mulled wine.
Most of the activities are run by third party organisers, so it allows a variety of different activities on offer for the public including Zumba, Slimming World, Tai Chi, Tae Known Do and many more. The Youth Club is also back up and running on a Wednesday night for children aged 11-19 or up to the age of 25 with disabilities/ learning difficulties at just £1 per session.
Alongside the current events and activities available at the centre, there are future plans for an indoor cinema and movie club, to allow people to meet others alongside watching some of their favourite films. Also, a skittles alley has been built and dart board added, in order to create a new social club with a licensed bar, keen for development early next year.
As the centre is self-sufficient, it relies on trustees and volunteers to maintain the centre and help continue these opportunities and activities. There are currently four trustees involved, with the aim to increase to seven. If you have a few hours to spare each month to attend meetings to discuss current and future plans for the centre and could consider becoming a trustee, the community centre would be pleased to hear from you. Also, people willing to volunteer their time to help sustain regular events such as the youth club are needed.
