HIGH-SPEC remote control car kits are being given out by Westbury Town Council to any primary schools or community groups that would like to build and then race them at this year’s White Horse Soapbox Derby, which is taking place on Saturday 20th May.
The Grasshopper remote control buggies will need to be built from scratch by the participating teams, who will then have the chance to race them on a purpose-built course at the soapbox event. Three local primary schools have already signed up for the competition.
Anyone interested in the competition can contact Ryan at events@westburytowncouncil.gov.uk.
In addition to the primary school challenge, any Westbury youngster up to the age of 16 with a remote-control car is also invited to come and have a go at racing on the course. Sign up is by private messaging the White Horse Soapbox Facebook page, with teams put into a competition bracket and then pitted against each other through the day in a round robin tournament.
There is no cost involved, thanks to the ongoing support of the event sponsors; Arke Ltd, TORN, Landmarc, Carrington-Smith, Honeystone Web Services, White Horse Equestrian Centre, Westbury Ford, White Horse CAD and Goodings Accounts, Western Skip Hire and Justworkwear.co.uk.
This year’s White Horse Soapbox Derby will be enclosed into two fields, opposite the White Horse Equestrian Centre. People wishing to attend the event are again encouraged to walk if they can. There will be no onsite parking, although low-cost transport close to the event and designated parking areas will again be available.
