THE White Horse Health Centre has become a ‘parkrun practice’ – an initiative to help promote the health and wellbeing of patients, supporting them to become more active and involved in the community.
Through the initiative, the White Horse Health Centre will develop close links with Southwick Country parkrun – the organised, free weekly 5k run held every Saturday at 9am in Southwick Country Park.
Health professionals at the medical centre will signpost and support patients to become involved in parkrun.
To celebrate the partnership, and to offer more information, the health centre is hosting a ‘parkrun practice’ launch on Saturday 11th January at the Southwick Country parkrun.
Wellbeing coordinator for the health centre, Mandy Johnson, told White Horse News, “We are delighted to announce that we are now a ‘parkrun practice’! We’ve teamed up with Southwick Country parkrun, with the goal to signpost and get patients, carers and staff to take part in parkrun. This can help treat a host of health conditions and improve physical and mental wellbeing.
“We are having a ‘parkrun practice’ launch on Saturday 11th January, where staff and patients can go along to the Southwick parkrun to see what’s involved, whether that’s taking part in the run itself, or to volunteer.
“Southwick parkrun events director, Sean Price, has been into the surgery to give a presentation to staff on what it’s all about and the benefits, but I think it’s really important to go along and see for yourself what goes on, which is why we have decided to have the launch event. If anyone is interested in joining us please let us know.”
