300 homes could be built near Westbury’s sailing lake after a developer recently applied for permission to build an estate on a 50-acre stretch of land next to Oldfield Road.
Square Bay, a London-based housing developer, submitted the application at the end of December and will be looking to build up to 300 new homes.
The firm bought the land adjacent to Station Road and Oldfield Road last year. The site has been designated for housing development in Wiltshire Council’s core strategy.
The works could also include a designated public open space, a new sailing club, and a road bridge crossing the train track to join Mane Way.
A public consultation is running and will come to an end on Friday 5th February, before a decision is expected on Tuesday 29th March.

The new builds could go some way towards Wiltshire Council’s housebuilding target in the town; the site is the only area in the town which was included in the core strategy as a strategic housing area. Others have yet to be identified.
