ANOTHER jam-packed programme of Christmas activities has been unveiled for Westbury in 2009.
This is the fourth year that the town council has produced a ‘Christmas in Westbury’ booklet detailing exactly what’s going on in the town over the festive period, and the hope is that this year will be the best yet.
The programme has proved very popular with residents over the last few years and is settling into an established format.
This year, events include the switching on of the Christmas lights on Friday 27th November, a children’s Christmas party on Saturday 5th December and a Christmas food market and street activities day on Saturday 12th December.
New for this year is a pool party for young people aged 13-19 at Westbury Swimming Pool on Saturday 5th December.
John Parker, projects officer for Westbury Town Council said, “The events this year are mostly ones that have been held in the past and have proved popular. The Christmas programme is becoming something regular. People love the Christmas booklet which is great.
“What we’ve done this year is combine the Christmas food market and the street event day to make it a more substantial day. The market will be selling fresh bread, smoked meats etc, and hot food. Last year’s was very popular and we’ve certainly been encouraged to do it again.
“The street event day will have things like the climbing wall, which has proved very popular with people of all ages before.”
Town clerk Les Fry added that the Christmas lights in the Market Place will feature numerous new lights, replacing the old ones for a brighter and better display.
Westbury mayor cllr Sue Ezra said, “Our Christmas campaign always raises a great deal of interest and involvement throughout Westbury and it’s always very refreshing to discover just how much is going on in our town and surrounding villages throughout the festive season!”
