This year’s Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in Bratton has been the village’s most successful ever with a total of £ 2,898 being donated during the remembrance period.
Tony Hyde, Bratton British Legion branch Poppy Appeal organiser, said, “Our thanks to all who gave to the appeal and to those who helped with the collection. In particular Bratton School, The Duke, The Hillworth Stores and Old Stables Tea Rooms all far exceeded previous totals.”
“The branch is grateful to all those who supported them.”
A remembrance service took place at St James’ Church on Sunday 11th November, taken by Rev Malcolm Wieck with music by the Bratton Silver Band .
Afterwards at the village war memorial for the wreath laying ceremony, British Legion members were joined by members of Bratton Baptist Chapel and many villagers. Wreaths were laid by Lieutenant General Louis Lillywhite CB, MBE (surgeon general) and Major General Jonathan Bailey CB, MBE (retd) on behalf of the legion and branch members and by representatives of various village organisations.
