LAFARGE Cement UK has said that there are no immediate plans to take the Westbury site out of its mothballed condition.
Production at the site ceased last year due to a change in cost and market conditions. Lafarge “mothballed” manufacturing operations, which meant that all manufacturing was suspended and the site put into dormant state.
Last week, Lafarge stated, “We continue to maintain cement production operations at our Westbury site in a mothballed condition. Our actions taken last year were in response to a significant reduction in demand for cement in the UK.
“The market situation remains challenging and therefore we are currently considering all future options available to us for the site where we continue to operate a cement distribution depot.
“As part of our commitment to open communications we will continue to keep all local interested parties updated if we plan to make any changes to the current status of the site.”
