WHITE Horse Country Park is planning exciting developments for their site on the outskirts of Westbury.
The owners have submitted a planning application to construct a golf driving range, which will bring 12 driving bays to the park. Other proposed facilities include flood lighting, parking, and toilet and storage facilities.
Owners Derek Hulin and Shaun May are eager to press ahead with their plans, and are hoping to start work as soon as Wiltshire Council makes a decision on the application, which should be in mid-July.
“The day after the application is approved, that’s when we’re starting,” said Derek, “and the nice thing with a driving range is that it’s pretty straight-forward.”
The country park already has a 9 hole golf course, bowling green, fishing lake, and football pitches, as well as the Blue Circle bar. Derek and Shaun say that the current planning application is just the start of the developments they want to make to the site, which they hope will make the park an even better place for people in the town.
“We want to do things that are going to benefit the people of Westbury,” said Derek. “We generally want to make it somewhere where the people of Westbury can go.”
The pair hope that they will eventually be able to extend the golf course to an 18 hole course. Other future developments could include a caravan park for touring vans, as well as cycle and walking tracks. Derek and Shaun are currently working on a children’s play area, and also plan to extend the fishing lake.
A presentation on the current planning application was made to the town council on Monday 7th June. The application and submitted details are available to view on the Wiltshire Council website at www.wiltshire.gov.uk, or can be viewed at the council offices in Bradley Road, Trowbridge.
