FOLLOWING the near death experience of their son, a Westbury couple are organising a wacky “Big Bed Pub Push,” to raise money for the unit that cared for their son.
The Westbury Big Bed Pub Push will be held on Sunday 17th October to raise money for Bristol Children’s Hospital Intensive Care Unit. Teams will start at the Castle Inn and make their way through the town, stopping and drinking at eight pubs along the way.
Dale and Kerry Plummer’s son, Finley, was rushed to hospital last month when he suddenly fell ill. “Our son was rushed in when he was just 7 days old. It was quite shocking – he just went blue and started screaming and stopped breathing,” said Kerry. “After days of just keeping him alive, he was strong enough to undergo heart surgery.
“To show our deepest feelings of gratitude, we would like to give something back to the amazing people who helped him and gave us our son back.”
Fortunately, Finley is now back at home and on the road to recovery. Dale came up with the idea of the bed push after remembering that his father had done a similar event, and particularly wanted to make sure it would be an event the men would enjoy.
Kerry explained, “There’ll be teams of five, with one person on the bed at all times, and at every pub they have to have half a pint. At the end, The Angel is going to do free food. The pubs are putting in teams, as are a lot of people – we’ve got 10 teams so far so it looks as if it could be quite big! We’re not charging people to enter, but hoping they can get sponsors.”
“It’s going to be fancy dress as well so I think it could be quite a sight!”
Teams will provide their own beds and Dale and Kerry are looking forward to seeing what they turn up with! Dale and Kerry hope to hold a raffle and auction on the day as well.
The bed push will take place on Sunday 17th October, starting at 3.00pm. Teams can be entered into the bed push by calling Kerry on 07584 303008.
