WESTBURY’S Christmas Lights will be switched on in an exciting extravaganza this Friday, the 26th November. TV’s Casualty and Hollyoaks star James Redmond will be leading the celebrations.
James Redmond will be compere for the event, which runs from 5.00pm-7.30pm in the High Street. Father Christmas will also be in attendance, with choirs, music, mince pies, children’s rides, entertainment and much more!
The winners of the town council’s Christmas card competition will also be there to help switch on the Christmas lights. The event will kickstart the town’s festive celebrations, with plenty happening in the run up to Christmas.
Mayor of Westbury, cllr Christine Mitchell said, “We all look forward to Christmas in Westbury – it’s a real opportunity for all the local community to get involved in our festive activities. There always seems to be a lot going on throughout the town and surrounding villages leading up to Christmas Day.”
The details of all the festive frivolities in Westbury coming up over the next month can now be found in the “Christmas in Westbury” booklet, which is distributed to every home in the local area. Booklets are also available from locations in the town which include the library, town council, and heritage centre.
Now in its fifth year, the ‘Christmas in Westbury’ programme will feature a range of major events together with the promotion of all local community events and activities – a festive programme with something for everyone.
After the Christmas lights are switched on, other highlights this year include:
• Saturday 4th December (2.00pm-4.00pm) Leighton Recreation Centre – ‘Children’s Christmas Party’ for children aged 5-12 years. Entertainment, activities, music, refreshments and Dave Hickory ‘Balloon Magician.’
• Saturday 4th December (7.30pm–10.00pm) Westbury Youth Development Centre – Youth Band Night/Gig. For young people aged 12-17 years
• Friday 10th + Weekends 11/12th & 18/19th December All Saints Church – ‘Christmas Tree Festival’
• Saturday 11th December (10.00am – 4.30pm) High Street and town centre – ‘Street Event Day’. Skating rink, climbing wall, fairground rides, inflatables, music, entertainment and hot food.
