A new charity for Westbury, Crosspoint, is gathering pace as it seeks to help people in need in the town.
The organisation aims to promote the wellbeing of local residents and to contribute to the relief of those in need.
The first project for the charity is to set up a “welcome centre” in the town where people in need can drop in for help, advice, or simply to chat with a friendly face. An active search for premises is now on, and it is hoped that Crosspoint will be able to open the centre early next year.
Over £5,000 for the charity has so far been raised through local fundraising such as coffee mornings, individual donations, and donations from churches.
Crosspoint held meetings in November to help them gather ideas, suggestions, and support. Rev Jennifer Totney, a member of the charity’s committee said, “The meetings went well – we had a good attendance, and support from those who came. We gave a short presentation, followed by time for questions during which many people expressed their support and gave helpful suggestions.
“We have now raised over £5,000 so can begin the process of registering as a charity. We are looking for a suitable premises in the town centre and are hoping to open in the new year.”
Crosspoint was founded by a group of people from different churches in the town, who identify problems with social isolation and deprivation in the area. The charity is built on Christian values, seeking to promote the wellbeing of local residents and contributing to the relief of those in need, irrespective of age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, race, or religion.
Crosspoint has now launched its own website, www.crosspoint-westbury.co.uk, where you can find out more about their vision and how to support their plans. Cheques payable to Crosspoint (Westbury) can also be sent to Steven Baggs at Team Office, Churchyard, Westbury. BA13 3BT
