WESTBURY Dairies Ltd is planning to extend their site on Northacre Industrial Park.
The company has submitted an application to Wiltshire Council to carry out an extention and alterations to their existing site, to include new production, storage, and associated plant and staff facilities.
The proposed developments follow the announcement that Arla Foods is to manufacture retail packet butter at the site from August 2011. Arla will build a dedicated butter making and pacing facility for retail products, in addition to continuing production of bulk butter. Around 60 jobs will be created at Westbury Dairies as part of the initiative.
The proposed extention will accommodate a small increase in the production of butter. However, the main purpose of the extension is to allow for butter to be packaged into various different sizes, as it is currently is packaged into large bulk blocks for the wholesale market. Westbury Dairies say that the proposed expansion will, if completed, help develop the potential of the Westbury facility and secure its long-term future, as well as creating many new jobs.
The proposals consist of a two bay extension to the north-west of the existing facility, along with the provision of new silos and service buildings to contain cooling plant. The overall footprint of the new building equates to a 36% increase in total floor area.
A decision on the application is expected in March.
