HEARTY breakfasts were served up as the annual Big Breakfast for Cancer Research took place on Saturday 26th March.
And it was a big success with a big total of £1,143 raised from the breakfasts and raffle. The ever popular event was held at the Paragon Hall, where volunteers spent their morning cooking and dishing up breakfasts from the full English to bacon sandwiches, scrambled eggs, tea, coffee, crumpets and teacakes.
Organiser Sheila Carruthers said, “We’re very pleased, times are hard out there and people haven’t got the money to spend as in previous years, so we’re very, very happy. It’s all down to local people supporting the event – without them what would we do?!
“Thanks to the traders of Westbury for the raffle prizes and the Labour Club for their generous support in hosting the event. Thanks too to the people of Westbury for joining us!”
In Westbury the Big Breakfast has been running for over a decade. Organiser Sheila Carruthers said, “It’s usually well patronised, and I think the fact that all the money goes to Cancer Research is something that is quite close to most people’s hearts.
“We do a choice of menus – you don’t have to have a full breakfast, we can do just scrambled eggs on toast or a bacon sandwich to take away. People do come back year on year – they often stop and ask ‘When is the next big breakfast?’”
