WESTBURY Area Board has awarded a grant of £5,000 to help the town’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
The grant will be added to the sum of £32,000 from the town council (budgeted for over two years) to help the town celebrate 60 years of the Queen’s reign.
A dedicated committee chaired by cllr Sue Ezra has been developing ideas and planning the events for the celebrations, designed to include all age groups from across the community.
Westbury’s street fayre will be held on Saturday 2nd June with plenty of stalls, rides, entertainment and a petting zoo will be coming to the town to offer fun for the whole family.
On Saturday evening there will be a concert to celebrate music and film from across the 60 years of the Queen’s reign.
On Sunday 3rd a combined church service will be held in the Market Place, while in the afternoon there will be a tea dance for the over 60s in the Paragon Hall.
On Monday 4th June a children’s street party will be held in the Market Place, which will include a fancy dress competition on the theme of Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses. There will also be a children’s disco that day. The evening will see the final of a ‘Westbury’s Got Talent’ competition, bringing together the best of the earlier rounds held in the town and villages, as well as a Queen tribute band “The Great Pretenders”. The beacon will also be lit in the evening.
Over the weekend, local communities will be welcome to hold their own street parties.
The committee will also be producing a commemorative programme of the weekend’s events, to include photographs, stories, and memories from the years of the Queen’s rule.
