A 6-year-old Westbury boy is gearing up for a sponsored bike ride, to raise money for HorseWorld in Bristol.
Alfie Waker was inspired to help the centre, which is a charity for horses, ponies, and donkeys, after a much loved Devizes dray horse, Tom, was sent there for his retirement.
Dad Martin Waker explained, “He fell in love with the dray horses in Devizes and one of their horses, Tom, now lives at HorseWorld. As soon as Alfie found out about it we had to visit HorseWorld, and he’s fallen in love with the place and adopted Tom on the adoption scheme.
“We got the paperwork through the post and Alfie said he wanted to do a cycle ride to raise some money. We think its a fabulous idea, especially at his age!”
On the 12th June Alfie will embark on his challenge, cycling the 10 miles from Devizes to Bradford on Avon to raise money and awareness for the charity. Having heard about his ride, Wadworth have invited him to start the ride from their stables. Alfie is inviting people to sponsor him via his justgiving page at www.justgiving.com/Alfie-Waker
HorseWorld is funded entirely through public donations, and rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes animals. You can find out more about the charity at www.horseworld.org.uk
