WESTBURY is gearing up for a late summer series of events following 2020 cancellations due to Covid-19. Organisers say they are excited to be back and local people are already enthusiastically supportive and snapping up tickets.
Events coming up over the next few weeks include the White Horse Classic Vehicle and Vintage Show; the Westbury Festival with over 60 events planned including the Wiltshire Chilli Fest; Westbury Lions 10k run; and a Gala Performance of Shakespeare’s classic Much Ado About Nothing for the opening of a new outdoor theatre at Heywood House, plus the town’s weekly street market and the monthly Lions car boot sale.
This weekend sees the return of Westbury’s White Horse Classic Vehicle and Vintage Show, on Sunday 5th September, 11.30am-5.00pm, organised by Westbury Lions Club, in conjuction with Trowbridge Lions, at White Horse Country Park.
Over 500 vehicles have pre-registered to attend, with more expected on the day. There will also be stalls, children’s entertainment and a full day of live music (See full details on page 3).
President of Westbury Lions, Tracy Sheppard said, “It will be fabulous to get back to some kind of normality.”
It’s a busy weekend for the local Lions Club as they will also be holding their monthly car boot sale, on the previous day, Saturday 4th September, also at White Horse Country Park.
During September, Westbury’s Street Market will continue to be held each Wednesday on the 8th, 15th and 22nd September.
Later in the month sees the return of a “bigger and better” Westbury Festival from 25th September to 9th October. Organisers say that tickets are selling fast for one of the town’s main events of the year, which was unable to take place last year due to the pandemic. The festival will be kick started by a new event, the Wiltshire Chilli Fest, organised by the town council.
Over 60 events will be held during the course of the festival at numerous venues across the town. (See full details on pages 7 and centre pages)
In October, Westbury Lions’ car boot sale will again be held on the 2nd, and the charity-raising group will be back with their popular Westbury Lions 10K run on 10th October. For more details of these events, see westburylions.org.uk
Westbury Town Council has announced that the much-anticipated switching on of the town’s Christmas lights can take place this year on Saturday 27th November, with further details to follow.
