routine at Destination Dance
LOCAL school of dance, ALW Dance, recently competed in London at Destination Dance taking home first place Gold in the group category and second place Silver for their trio.
ALW Dance, opened in 2010 by dancer Amy Watts, caters for ages 18 months+ in a variety of different styles of dance from tap to street dance. During the October half-term, the school gathered students to take part in Destination Dance.
“Destination Dance is the UK’s premiere dance competition where dance schools from all across the country compete in all number of styles of dance,” said Amy Watts, teacher and principal of ALW dance. “The dancers can compete for trophies and also scholarships to some of the UK’s best dance academies. The competition company run various competitions across the country with ALW Dance opting to compete in London along with 700 performances throughout the week.
“The students performed against various schools from across the country and in front of six professional judges who have done extensive theatre and TV work. The group piece, performing a fairytale-themed dance was awarded 1st place gold in the group category and their trio, performing a lyrical piece, was awarded a 2nd place silver in their category.
“I am incredibly proud of the team’s achievements on the day and their dedication and commitment shown over the last couple of months. It was a fantastic half-term for all of us!”
Amelia Davis, a student who attends classes in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, acro, street and musical theatre said, “I couldn’t believe we came 1st! Our whole competition team performed really well and it was lots of fun spending the day in London altogether and seeing lots of children dancing!”
