Representatives from local charities and voluntary organisations gathered at The Laverton on 25th January for Westbury Town Council’s annual Grants Awards Evening.
The town council gave £12,510 worth of grants to a wide range of organisations which range from local sport clubs, groups which support the elderly and disabled, youth clubs, music and children’s groups.
Mayor of Westbury, councillor Stephen Andrews presented the cheques. He said, “It gave me great pleasure to present cheques at the annual grants evening to over 40 groups and organisations that operate within Westbury. I’m always impressed by the fact that there are so many people who run these organisations, mainly voluntarily, to provide support, care or sporting activities for our community.
“These groups cater, variously, for all age ranges from the very young to the very old, often on a shoestring budget and with minimal fanfare. It is only right that they are recognised by the town council in a way that enables them to provide enhanced services for those they support.”
Groups which received the grants included, The White Horse Day Centre, Spurgeons Young Carers, 1st Westbury Scout Group, Victim Support, Welfare of the Elderly and West Wilts Youth Sailing Association.
