Pupils from Westbury primary schools recently enjoyed playing in the sunshine at a rugby festival held by Westbury RFC Juniors at Knott Field.
A series of exciting games showing off Westbury’s talented youngsters led to the eventual winners from Bratton and Dilton Marsh taking away the trophies. At the end of the festival every participant received a medal from Ben Williams, a professional rugby player who plays at centre with Bath RFC.
Julian Phelps from Westbury RFC Juniors said, “We would like to thank Bratton, Bitham Brook, Dilton Marsh and Westbury Leigh Primary Schools for supporting this event and providing the players with a fun day out. We would also like to thank our coach referees and volunteers – many of whom took time off work to help out with the event.”
“Westbury Juniors have teams of different age groups from U7s through to U13s, boys and girls, all enjoying a sport that provides a culture of teamwork, respect, discipline, sportsmanship, and most importantly enjoyment.”
The event was sponsored by Sam Gooding of Gooding Accounts.
Sam said, “The opportunity to support a great local event involving the Westbury based schools was too good an opportunity to refuse. I myself was once a junior player at Westbury RFC and appreciate how important a part sport can play in the development of children, especially in today’s society.
“It’s great that all the children receive acknowledgment of their efforts on the day with a medal, and I am only too happy to support the club in making this happen.”
