THE Westbury Mayor’s charity calendar with photographs of ‘Wonderful Westbury’ goes on sale next week.
The winners of the photography competition have been announced and the calendar will be available to buy from 12th November.
Mayor Cllr Stephen Andrews invited local people to send their photographs of Westbury to be included in this year’s calendar. The theme of this year’s calendar is ‘Wonderful Westbury’ with photographs depicting familiar local scenes.
The calendar costs £7 with all proceeds going to the mayor’s chosen charities, Carer Support Wiltshire and The Welfare of the Elderly. The calendars can be bought from the Laverton and the Heritage Centre on the High Street. They will also be on sale at the Christmas Street Fayre on 3rd December.
Cllr Andrews said, “I was highly delighted with the number of entries that I received for the calendar photography competition and I think that the photographs make for a splendid calendar which meets my hopes that we could have photographs of familiar Westbury scenes taken from a different perspective.
“The range of subjects and the standard of those photographs was very high and made the job of judging for the panel very difficult.
“I was disappointed that there were none from the youngest age group. This surprised me as most children seem to have phones or other photographic devices these days.
“All the winners have been notified and will be presented with their prizes at the Calendar and Christmas Card Exhibition to be held at the Laverton on Saturday 12th November. Further details will follow shortly. This will also be the first opportunity for people to buy the calendar, so please come along to get what is certain to be a very popular item.
“I would like to thank all those businesses in Westbury that have sponsored both the calendar and provided the prizes. Their logos will appear on the appropriate monthly page and I hope everyone will give their support to those businesses over the next year and beyond.”
The winners are as follows: Front cover – Keith Harvey; January – Andrew Leach; February – Jim Wilson; March – Tiffany Crockford-Ward; April – Jamie Harper; May – Martin Honor; June – Philip Alford; July – Kate Grant; August – Russ Chant; September – John Osborne; October – Madeleine Jordan; November – Alan Swan; December – Wayne Clayton.
