YOU’VE probably seen, or more likely heard, Westbury’s Town Crier, John Hadfield, around the town.
Since being appointed in November last year, John has been very busy at events in the town such as the Christmas in Westbury event and the Christmas Lights Switch on, the Mayor’s Civic Service and the Mayor’s Civic Reception.
John moved to Westbury with his wife Heather three years ago from London and is enjoying the quieter life.
John said, “We both love living in Westbury, it’s a lovely town and easily accessible to so many other places. It’s a fantastic place to live with a real sense of community.
“Being Town Crier is great fun and I enjoy it very much. I’ve always liked meeting new people and interacting with people, so it’s the perfect opportunity to do so. I also wanted to do something to help the town; the council needed a Town Crier and I had some spare time so I thought I would apply. Luckily, they thought I was loud enough and gave me the job!
“I think people are appreciative of having a Town Crier because it’s a long-standing tradition for the town. It’s nice to hear feedback from people who say they like having the Town Crier at local events.”
