Local businesses are being invited to support a local group in transforming Westbury High Street with a Remembrance tribute later this year.
The Westbury Yarn Bombers, a local knitting and crochet group, plan to create various art installations in the town to mark Remembrance. Plans include decorating the rotunda and covering posts in the High Street with handmade poppies.
The group is inviting local businesses to sponsor the poppy posts for £10. The money will help cover the cost of materials, yarn and the creation of hundreds of handmade poppies.
“This year we’re creating a powerful Remembrance tribute across Westbury High Street, and we’re inviting local businesses to be part of it,” said Marisa, who runs the group.
“I wanted to start with our Westbury businesses because I’d love them to feel involved – part of the story, part of the legacy we’re building together.
“This project can only grow bigger and better with the hands, hearts and creativity of the people around us, and I want their work to be part of what we bring into our town. To feel the pride I feel when I see someone enjoy it!”
Marisa is also hoping to work alongside Westbury Shed on some elements of the project.
“If everything goes well and we receive plenty of support, the installation will go up in October so the community can enjoy it in the lead-up – all ready for Sunday 8th November,” said Marisa.
The group is also looking for volunteers to help with the project. To find out more, visit their Facebook page. To sponsor a poppy post, email Marisa on westburyyarnbombers@gmail.com.
