WESTBURY’S Poppy Appeal launches at the end of the month and organisers are hopeful it will be another successful year of fundraising.
Poppies will be available from shops, pubs and clubs in the town from Friday 28th October, and collectors will be in Co-op, Aldi and Morrisons from Saturday 5th to Friday 11th November.
This year’s Remembrance Service will take place on Sunday 13th November.
Local man, Bill Prior, has been organising Westbury’s appeal for 29 years.
Bill said, “I’ve been organising the appeal since 1987 and have very much enjoyed being part of it. I turned 85 years-old this year but I hope to still be able to collect for another year.
“The people of Westbury are always so generous when it comes to the Poppy Appeal. The amount does tend to increase each year, although last year there was a slight drop. We would love to raise more than last year’s amount, especially as Westbury is growing.”
If you would like to volunteer to help with this year’s Poppy Appeal, contact Bill Prior on 01373 827655.
Bratton’s branch of the Royal British Legion will be holding an Armistice Day Act of Remembrance at Bratton Village War Memorial on Friday 11th November at 10.50am.
The annual Remembrance Service will be held at St James’ Church on Sunday 13th November at 9.30am and the wreath laying ceremony will follow at the Village War Memorial from 11am.
Poppy Appeal organiser for the Bratton branch, Colin Tagg said, “All will be welcome in joining us on both occasions to remember the members of our armed forces who died in the line of duty and in particular the fallen from Bratton.”
