The Rotary Club of Westbury recently held a special cheque presentation event at the Orangery Café at Heywood House, where a total of £4,300 was handed out to a range of local charities.
The presentation marked the culmination of months of fundraising by the club, which runs a busy calendar of events throughout the year.
Charity donations made were to £1,000 to Dogs for the Blind, received by Hilary Reed; £1,300 to the Youth Adventure Trust, received by Natalie Levin – part of the club’s regular annual support; £500 to Julia’s House, accepted by Claudia Hazelton; £500 to Dorothy House, accepted by June Blakeley; £500 to Rotary District Governor Stuart Gilbert for district initiatives; and £500 to Alzheimer’s Support Wiltshire, accepted by Rachel Fear.
The funds were raised through a variety of popular local events, including The Imber Ultra Marathon, a carol concert in All Saints’ Church, a mince pies and mulled wine stand at the Christmas lights switch on event in Westbury and an international cuisine evening.
The club also holds curry nights, charity collections, sponsored walks and assists with events including the Westbury Soapbox Derby. One of their next charity collections will be outside Morrisons on Saturday and Sunday 4th and 5th July, with funds going to Dorothy House.
Beyond fundraising, the Rotary Club plays a key role in community support, from helping organise the Rotary Children’s Fun Day at Longleat for local deserving children, to packing Water Survival Boxes for international disaster relief in partnership with Frome Selwood Rotary Club.
