AN ex-Matravers student is preparing to help underprivileged communities in Cambodia in the summer.
19-year-old Emily Arnold will volunteer through the FutureSense Foundation, a charity committed to providing human resources for a range of projects around the globe with a focus on education, child welfare, and livelihoods.
Emily will spend four weeks in Cambodia in July. She explained, “Cambodia is a country of outstanding natural beauty, but its people are facing some of the most challenging developmental and social issues in the world. Our group will be staying in a volunteer house and helping to support a range of projects run by one of the FutureSense Foundation’s partner NGOs, for the benefit of the local community.
“In the past, volunteers have improved the standard of spoken English at a local school, helped to run extra-curricular activities and refurbished facilities such as libraries and classrooms.”
Emily, who is training to be a midwife at Oxford Brookes University, has pledged to raise £2,250 for the FutureSense Foundation. She has already started fundraising in her university town of Oxford, and hopes to be able to organise some fundraisers in the Westbury area as well.
