THE British weather may have slowed up Westbury’s borders and baskets – but the coming weeks should see the town bloom.
100 hanging baskets, with a colour theme of red, white, and blue to celebrate both the Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee year, have been put up around the town.
Town clerk Keith Harvey says, “Most of the comments are very favourable. When people see them, they say ‘that’s nice.’
“The borders were planted up quite late – because of the bad weather the plants at the nurseries were so far behind. They’re planted now – we’re just hoping for some sunshine to bring them on!
“We’ve also replaced some of the planters coming into town because they were timber and rotted, and we’ve had them replaced with recyclable material.
“We’ve had planters put on the Gooselands roundabout, and are inviting sponsorship for there. When the doctors’ surgery is finished, we’ll be looking for sponsors down there as well. “It’s surprising the number of people that have commented about the White Horse that went up on the Co-op roundabout.
