RESIDENTS in Westbury have gained the support of Westbury Town Council, who object to a new development of nine houses on overgrown land in Gibbs Close.
The plans are to build the nine homes, with 18 car parking spaces, as well as a new entrance road leading out onto Alfred Street.
Resident Lauren Burton addressed the town council during the recent highways planning and development meeting on Monday 20th January.
She summarised that residents’ main concerns are the overdevelopment of the site, access and safety. She said they are not opposed to this piece of land being built on, however nine houses will put too much pressure on the surrounding infrastructure.
Residents also believe that, as the lane is used frequently by parents and children to access the nearby schools, the increase of vehicle movement and construction traffic during the build phase will be a safety risk.
Westbury Town Council agreed to support the residents and objected to the application, labelling it ‘unacceptable’ on the grounds of location, scale, mass, setting, increase traffic flow and poor access. They said the design of the development also goes against paragraph 130 of the National Design Policy Framework – not improving the character and quality of an area and the way it functions.
