Traditional butchers celebrates two years on the high street

Andrew Elliot in his refurbished shop

ELLIOTT’S Butchers has celebrated two years since opening on Westbury High Street and with a shop refurbishment and new and exciting produce on the shelves, the traditional butchers hopes the community will continue to support the shop for years to come.

Elliott’s Traditional Butchers is owned and run by experienced butcher Andrew Elliott, who always dreamt of owning his own shop.

Andrew said, “I’d wanted to open my own butchers for over 20 years. I ran the meat counter at Coopers supermarket for 23 years but when this unit became available, I knew Westbury was the right place to open. I’m Westbury born and bred so I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to open my own butchers on the town’s high street.

“Now we’ve made it through the first two years, we have settled into life on the high street. Of course, it’s been difficult – people tend to like doing all their shopping under one roof at a large supermarket so forget about us, but we are still very much part of some people’s food shopping routine which is lovely.

“I think every town needs a butchers but we need the support of the town to keep us here.  There are a few empty units on the high street and it would be such a shame to see more shops close down. We’ve got fantastic produce but the challenge is getting people through the door to see what we have on our shelves.”

Andrew has invested quite a bit into refurbishing the shop, moving with the times but still offering what you would expect from a traditional butchers.

“We’ve had a revamp and doubled the size of the shop. We’ve now got more display fridges and a huge range of pickles, chutneys, mustards and chilli jam from The Wiltshire Chilli Farm. We have a selection of cheeses, free range eggs, charcuterie produce, fruit and vegetables and Marshfield Icecream.

“We have also increased our big value meat packs and now we have special  meat boxes which we will deliver to your home for free. They are perfect if you are having friends and family round for a barbecue. Sausages, steaks, lamb chops, pork chops, pork, burgers, free range chicken – impress your guests with a selection of meat which is sourced locally and prepared by your local butcher. Plus, we have spices, meat rubs and marinades to compliment your meat.

“But of course, we have the traditional offers, as well, whether it’s a pork chop for one or rib of beef to feed 10. I can also offer advice on what the best cuts are and how much you will need for a recipe. Also, if there is something we don’t have, we will try our hardest to get it for you.

“Over the next few years, I’d like to expand the range of produce and have bigger displays. I hope we will be able to stay on the high street, as long as people support us. This is my passion so I would love to be on Westbury High Street for many more years.”

Elliott’s can be contacted on 01373 865948.
